Inventing America is a site-specific augmented reality experience, designed to be experienced on location at Governor’s Island. It invites users to travel back in time as a 17th century colonist setting foot on what will become New York City. The project uses city spaces to bring history back to life and received the support of Verizon, HAVAS, the NYC Media Lab and in collaboration with the Governors Island trust.
This augmented reality production involved many people and unique components such as 3D scanning, body motion, face capture, custom graphics, branching narrative mechanisms and AR platforms. Some of the solutions were developed in house such as using iPhone X camera for capturing face expressions and mapping of virtual environments to physical spaces using augmented reality.
